Cuvaison Estate Wines Champions National Cork Recycling Campaign
Cuvaison Estate Wines will kick off its national cork recycling program at Ravinia Festival during the 2009 season.
Cuvaison and Ravinia have partnered to collect corks at the Park View restaurant, inside gift shops and at wine carts located through the festival grounds. Cuvaison will also be at Ravinia to collect corks and answer your questions about cork recycling during wine tasting nights at the park. Cuvaison will ensure that the corks are recycled, thanks to relationships with several cork recycling organizations and companies committed to finding alternate re-uses for wine corks and keeping them out of landfills. The goal of the Cuvaison “Put A Cork In It” program is to spark positive involvement in others to become responsible and dedicated to preserving our earth’s natural resources
Cuvaison Estate Wines is a leader in winery sustainability. In 2007, the winery flipped the switch on a solar system that produces 95 percent of its Carneros winery’s electrical needs and reduces its carbon footprint by some 360,000 pounds a year. In addition, according to Winemaker Steve Rogstad, Cuvaison continues to conserve soil and minimize the use of synthetic and carbon-based inputs in its farming. The winery is member of the California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance, was an inaugural participant in the Napa Valley Vintners' Napa Green program, and is a certified Bay Area Green Business.
“Like a lot of people, we had always tried to do the right thing, to be good stewards of the land, not be wasteful, recycle paper in the office, that kind of thing. But seeing what’s happening in the world, it finally struck us that we needed to do more—that personally and as a business, we had both an obligation and an opportunity to do more.” Jay Schuppert, President of Cuvaison Winery
